117241 The University of Maryland Network Operation Center (NOC) is responsible for monitoring and managing the network.
This position is necessary to monitor, detect, analyze, trouble-shoot and assist in resolving network outages.
This position will provide overall support for the University's Network Management System (NMS), CA Spectrum and Performance Center.
In addition, the position will support additional monitoring tools used by the NOC.
(Pingdom, APC's Data Center Expert, Passler's Router Traffic Grapher (PRTG) and Infoblox's NetMRI among others.
This position will be the lead NMS developer and maintain the suite of tools that the campus Network Operations Center (NOC) uses to support the network infrastructure.

Minimum
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an IT related field of study.
Experience:
At least seven years of experience with a technical organization in the capacity of a NMS Developer/Administrator.
Scripting and programming skills to enhance the value and utility of network application and tools.
At least five years of system administration experience to include hardware and operating system support.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must have familiarity with fundamental networking/server monitoring and creating the templates for monitoring of all the hardware and software elements.
Must have the ability to troubleshoot the tool by self and by coordinating with vendor support.
Must have the ability to guide and train the team on CA Spectrum and Performance Center administration.
Must have the ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl, Python).
Should be comfortable with most aspects of monitoring tool administration, for example, configuration and implementing alerts for all the required hardware and software components.
Should have programming experience in any applicable language.
Must have experience with system design & architecture.
Must have experience with enterprise management tools such as Tivoli, HP-OpenView, Solarwinds, etc.
Should have experience with Cisco routers and switches.
The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, have good oral and written communication skills, good organization and problem solving skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the campus, from technical to executive management.
This candidate should also have the ability to work in a fast-paced, open ended team environment and be results focused, flexible and adaptable.
Preferences Network operations experience.
Familiarity with some or all of the following:
switched Ethernet, LAN switches (Cisco), wireless Controllers and Access Points (Cisco), firewalls (Cisco, Palo Alto), VoIP (Cisco, Avaya), network routers (Cisco, Juniper, Big Switch), DHCP & DNS (Infoblox), VPN (Cisco), Packet shapers (Procera), WAN technologies, remote troubleshooting, network protocols, network diagnostic tools, and the OSI model.
Additional Certifications:
IT or network management related certifications is a plus.

Physical demands:
Ability to carry or transport hardware/software up to 30 lbs, to climb stairs/ladder, work in parts of the building/facility which house the wiring infrastructure to review, test or implement computer products/services, and must be able to implement hardware.
