Senior Academic Advisor Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Maryland Applied Graduate Engineering (MAGE) in the A.
James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park is currently seeking a Senior Academic Advisor to guide and support current graduate students from the point of admission through to graduation.
The position provides information and advising through a variety of mediums and assists admitted and current students with the creation and review of program course plans, degree requirements, course selection, university policies and procedures, university resources, degree progress, and graduation clearances.
The Advisor also works with Faculty Advisors and acts as a liaison between Faculty Advisors and students regarding curriculum decisions and approvals.
This Senior Academic Advisor assists in the creation and implementation of workshops and activities to engage students in both the community of the Clark School and the University of Maryland campus at large and utilizes a wide variety of electronic mediums to communicate resources and policies to students in a creative and effective manner.
The Advisor also provides mentorship and consistent customer service to students across various platforms.

Minimum
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree required.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of academic advising experience in college/university student services.
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field can be used in place of 2 years of experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possesses strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
Superior ability to set priorities, self-start and follow through on duties and projects.
Solid understanding of advising strategies in higher education as related to professional and international students, Proven ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-generational setting.
Demonstrated dedication to customer service and the implementation of student centered advising and support approaches.
Must possess a demonstrated understanding of advising strategies in higher education as they relate to professional and international students.
Demonstrated enthusiasm, self-motivation, and a positive approach to work.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
Demonstrated use of good judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to solve problems.
Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently as well as in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability using data to make informed decisions.
Proficiency working with Microsoft Office tools or equivalent to utilize technology to support advising, recruitment, and program management.
Preferences:
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field.
Knowledge of advising technologies, including Student Information System (SIS), Qualtrics, UAchieve, TerpEngage, Advise on the Web, or similar tools.
Physical Demands:
Predominantly sedentary work.
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to sit for an extended time and operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
Ability to review and prepare data on reports and computer screens and engage in extensive reading.
Must be able to attend meetings across campus and occasionally travel regionally.
Approximately 10% regional travel.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends to meet the needs of professional and international students enrolled in evening courses.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
